Hi my name is Adrian, I am trained in Integrative Transactional Analysis.
I first became interested in being a therapist because I wanted to understand my own struggles, to make sense of who I was, who I wanted to be, my behaviours, feelings, thoughts and so on.
For many people, particularly in an age of technology, the world can feel lonely and isolated. I aim to provide a safe, compassionate and judgement free environment to explore these areas and more.
Experiences like anxiety, depression, panic attacks and so on I believe are all symptoms of something deeper in us. A way for our bodies to communicate to us, and draw our attention inwards, when living in a world that is constantly demanding we focus our attention outwards, like relationships, responsibilities such as bills and taxes, stressful life events or job expectations to name a few. After starting therapy myself and studying various counselling modules at university, I knew this was where I wanted to take my direction in life.
I have studied various types of therapy and experienced various types as a client too, which has taught me the importance of finding the right model of therapy that suited my personality. I found transactional analysis to be my natural home with a nice blend of cognitive awareness and emotional exploration. If other types of therapy haven’t felt useful to you, I welcome you to try TA therapy with me.
I moved into working as a learning support assistant, working with young adults from ages 18 – 25, who had Autism (ASD), ADHD, or both as well as profound/complex learning difficulties, and physical disabilities which affected their quality of life. This job taught me much about how we communicate with each other, how society may communicate and have differences in communicating. I learned in depth about the struggles individuals with ADD/ADHD, ASD or Asperger's may go through in life.
I believe everyone can experience a communication barrier at some point in their life. Even depression and anxiety can be signs of a disconnection within us. As a therapist who is interested in all forms of language and communication, I welcome you to communicate in how you may feel comfortable, such as music, or scenes from movies, art, imagery and metaphors or your cultural background.
Everyone’s experience in life is different and I am here to listen and understand yours, be that one of being an ADHD/ADDer or ASDer, or if you are looking for support around mental health difficulties like depression, anxiety, or day to day struggles then I sincerely offer you to contact me and look forward to speaking.
These three are quotes from the first book that impacted my experience as a client, and my journey as a therapist. The values of Alice Miller's book have inspired many therapists and individuals seeking therapy.
" When the patient has emotionally worked through the history of her childhood, and has thus regained her sense of being alive, the goal of therapy has been reached. She will then be able to use the tools she has learned whenever feelings from her past are triggered by present events. As time goes on she will use them more and more effectively and will need less time for this work "
" It was not the beautiful and pleasant feelings that gave me new insight, but the ones against which I had fought most strongly…shabby, petty, mean, helpless, humiliated, demanding, resentful, or confused…sad and lonely"
" He will discover in himself a need to live according to his true self and no longer be forced to earn 'love' that always leaves him empty handed, since it is given to his false self"
